Telephones in Iran

Making a telephone call in Iran has been made easier by the appearance of public card phones across the country. Cards come in IR5000, IR10,000 and IR20,000. Local calls are charged at less than IR50 a minute. Older payphones take IR50 and IR100 coins. Phoning overseas can be done from international phone centers which are open from early morning to around 10pm in many towns and cities. Calls are charged by the minute and the minimum call is 3 minutes. Calling Iran from overseas is a different matter and the lines to Tehran may often be busy.
