Persian Gulf / Kish Island Dive Sites

Diving on Kish Islands is easy and relaxed for all levels of experience.

You have the choice of fringing coral reefs, pinnacles and a shipwreck.

We regularly visit all dive sites, not just the ones at our doorstep. There are also a couple of site that are known only to us – guaranteed no other divers!

The maximum depth at most of the dive sites ranges between 8 and 10 meters. Our advanced dive sites can be deeper, up to 33 meters. Visibility changes throughout the year, averaging 10-15 + meters. On good days you can experience clear waters up to 20 meters visibility or more.

You will encounter a large variety of aquatic live on all the dive sites. Common sightings include Angel Fish, Butterfly Fish, Barracuda, Stingrays, Reef Sharks, Turtles, Groupers, Trigger Fish, Trevally, Moray Eels, Shrimps,Puffer Fish, Snappers and many, many more. Whale sharks occasionally visit the Kish Islands, although you have to be very lucky to see one! We discuss the marine life encountered on our dives during our thorough dive briefings and debriefings.

Jurassic park:

Just south of Big Coral about 100 meters offshore. Turtles, crabs, lobsters and

Barracuda, rays and other fish in huge numbers.

Plenty of things to see.

Ideal for day and night shore dives.

Excellent place for U/W photography.

Big Coral:

Hard coral reef South East of Kish Island. Running parallel to the shore,

Separated by a narrow sandy strip, and rising from 6-7m to 2m below the surface.

Large schools of snapper, goatfish, fusiliers and other reef fish and the

Occasional Black tip reef shark.

With lots of turtles, rays, Moray eels, and shoal fish.

Ideal for day and night shore dives.

Excellent place for U/W photography.

Oyster bank:

A mid-sea Oyster Bank sitting on a shallow plateau about 5-10m deep 5 minutes south of the island.

Great diving is found on the east, west and north side with abundant Oysters and schools of butterflies, banners and snappers here you can find oysters as much as you like.

Which are well worth a visit.

Southern reef:

An offshore reef. The area is unprotected and the reef can only be reached in good weather. The current at the surface is usually from the East but below it can be from any direction. To the north the drop off is a forest of coral to the south the plateau slope gently away with small pinnacles of coral. The whole area swarms with fish of all types there are numerous giant morays encountered here, as well as the wale sharks and schooling reef fish as well as huge groupers and the occasional hammerhead in the early morning.

It’s a Deep dive site, 20-25 meters 30Minutes south of Kish.

Good For advanced divers.

Hendorabi Island:( Not shown in the map (

This offshore Island is surrounded by good diving on all sides. The south end has a shallow plateau where the moorings are located this location is the most used. For first timers at Hendorabi Island the dive will take place from the plateau, moving eastwards to the drop off then north.

After a short swim against the current you reach three pinnacles close together, chimneys reach through the pinnacles toward the surface. After exploring this area you take advantage of the light current to drift back to the corner of the plateau where three small ergs are found, covered in glass fish. Finish the dive on the plateau exploring the numerous coral heads and reef fish. The plateau is home to Napoleons, Emperor Angels and free swimming Morays. The east and west side have awesome drift dives and the northern tip has a magnificent coral garden but is only accessible in very good weather.

The sports and recreational facilities and clubs include opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving courses, jet skiing, diving cruises, water skiing, sea skiffs, cruises to other islands around Kish, parasailing, jet boat rides, cruise fishing boats, pedal boating, banana boat rides, and windsurfing. The sports and water sports centres are open at 9 am and usually welcome customers until sunset. Of course, weather conditions, a calm sea and the tide affect the water sports on offer. Swimming is very refreshing in the limpid waters of Kish Island. There is a well-equipped beach for women, which is presently hosting customers on the northern side of the Island. The largest, well-equipped leisure complex for ladies is being built on the eastern beach, with an area of 25 000 metres. Upon completion of the project, the beach for women will be transferred to this new location.

Horse riding is one of the sports which not only affects the health, but it also gives the rider peace of mind and relaxation. The Kish Equestrian Club is in the north of the island (next to the Olympic Village). It was established in 1993 for the international Persian Gulf competitions, and its landscaping and stables were finished to acceptable standards by 1995. Presently, the construction of a racecourse, part of mange, green space and stands have become necessary to enable the club to host national races. Towards the end of 1997, 40 large races were held for the first time in Iran at the Kish Equestrian Club. The Club now has various breeds of horses, including thoroughbred, and Arab horses. An active veterinary surgery and experienced manpower have made scientific care of horses possible.

Kish Palm Groves

Kish has a long history of cultivating palm trees. Most travelers who have visited Kish in past centuries have mentioned the island's dense palm groves. Unfortunately, most of them have been destroyed in the past decades. "Bagh-e Behest" is the only remaining palm grove from past times and is situated in the west of the Safeyn district. It is one of the island's most beautiful groves and is especially spectacular at sunset. In the last decade, KFZO has paid special attention to palm trees in its landscape design for Kish Island. The Tolou (Sunrise) and Ghoroub (Sunset) palm groves are examples of this. Tolou palm grove is in the east of the island, with almost 15kms of area space and its saplings were planted in 1994.
