Introduction: Saqiz-Saghez-Saqez City-Shahr e Saghez(Persian:سقز )

This city is to the northwest of Sanandaj next to the province of West-Azarbaijan. The word Saqiz is derived from the word SAKAS which is the name of an ancient tribe. This city is one of the ancient cities of the province which has been under the attacks of Ashur dynasty and ancient Romans. Due to these attacks most of its historical heritage is buried under the ground.
Important Attractions of this City:

The ancient Bazaar of Saqhez
This bazaar is in the central part of this city.

The ancient castle of Ziwiyeh
This castle is built on a hill which is located to the south-east of this city. It is 55 kilometers away from the city and looks over the surrounding area. A lot of things have been written about the importance and greatness of this hill. Many precious objects have been dug up through a series of excavations most of which have been done illegally. Most of these excavated items are kept in foreign museums . From among the precious objects found in this burial site we can name two pieces of painted ivory on which animal pictures and fabulous hunting scenes are carved out, a gold necklace and a gold eagle head which are of great value.

Shahid Kazemi Dam
This dam is 60 Kilometers away from the north of Saqiz. It is remarkable concerning water sports and fishing.

Music and dancing groups
One of the outstanding features of Saqiz is its rich music. There are so many music and dancing groups in this area. Due to the various performances these groups have, this city is one of the main centers of music in the province.
