Re: Margoun waterfall

Postby Parvaneh » Wed Mar 26, 2014 1:30 pm

Margoun Waterfall in Fars province, which is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Middle East, has high tourism potentials and requires investments for establishing facilities and infrastructures.
With a height of 70 meters and a width of 100 meters, the waterfall is located 45 km from Sepidan District and 130 km from Shiraz. It originates from Komhar River.
Margoun Waterfall flows even in frosty winter, Mehr News Agency reported.
A sloping foothill with abundant trees and moss-covered rocks create a pretty landscape for the waterfall.
Current Situation
The Margoun Waterfall region was declared a protected zone in 1999. Brown bear, goat, porcupine, hyena, jackal, wolf and fox are among animal species found in the region.
The protected zone is among the five exemplary tourism regions of the country. At weekends, especially on holidays, over 1,000 automobiles packed with passengers from different parts of the country, especially Fars province, travel to the region.
The waterfall, unfortunately, lacks the minimum tourism facilities. Tourists who come to the area face problems like lack of toilet.
As more tourists are visiting Margoun Waterfall, the resolution of existing problems will not only appeal to tourists, but would also create a reliable source of income for residents of the region.
Facilities Needed
Sepidan MP Enayatollah Hashemi said Margoun Waterfall is a very attractive tourism site and many people visit this area throughout the year.
“Unfortunately, the region is deprived of the minimum tourism facilities and tourists even face problems when they want to use the water closet. In the past, there were a few water closets in the region, but were destroyed due to poor hygienic conditions,” he added.
“At present, given the rising number of tourists visiting the region, the need for developing tourism infrastructures is felt more than ever.”
Hashemi emphasized that officials should help facilitate investments in the region.
The lawmaker said the road leading to the waterfall is not suitable.
Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) claims that this road should not be asphalted and moves should be made for paving the road with stone. In any event, nothing has been done for either asphalting the road or paving it with stone.
Hashemi noted that during holidays, many people visit Margoun Waterfall and it is crucial to build a restaurant and coffee shop in the region.
“Building water closets and a parking lot for tourists is also necessary. Since the number of tourists who visit the area increases in summer, these tourism facilities should be facilitated,” he said.
Rahim Houshmandi, a Sepidan District official, said building infrastructures at any place requires funds and since Margourn Waterfall is a national asset, officials should pay more attention to this exemplary tourism zone.
“Recently, good moves have been made for creating the basic tourism facilities in the area and eight water closets have been built with a credit exceeding 270 million rials (about $27,000),” he said.
Houshmandi also said that in a recent meeting attended by provincial officials for resolving the problems of this waterfall, it was decided that a comprehensive plan for this protected zone be devised and implemented.
“Currently, building a parking lot, prayer room and other tourism infrastructures in this area is of paramount importance and provincial officials should allocate special credits for this region,” he said.
